Genetically engineered diabetic animals with marked remission of Sirt1 in widespread, podocyte-specific, and renal tubular-specific showed aggravation of albuminuria and glomerular abnormalities, whereas overexpression of Sirt1 or treatment with BF175 has been reported to display a preventive effect against diabetic-associated podocyte damage and the development of DKD [37]. Here, SIRT1 is linked to diabetic kidney disease.
