GLAST deficient (GLAST−/−) mice are a recognized mouse model of normal tension glaucoma (NTG), as they demonstrate progressive retinal ganglion cell loss and optic nerve degeneration without elevated intraocular pressure and show a glaucomatous pathology, including glutamate neurotoxicity and oxidative stress in the retina [9, 10]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC1A3 and low tension glaucoma.
