It is noteworthy that antisense inhibition of peptide transport system-6 (PTS-6) improved brain uptake and neuroprotective effects of PACAP-27 in murine models of AD and stroke (Dogrukol-Ak et al., 2009), suggesting that inhibition of PTS-6 efflux component might become a therapeutic strategy to enhance central effects of PACAP. The gene discussed is ADCYAP1; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
