TTR and stricture: In one 2011 study of 100 patients with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome who underwent carpal tunnel release surgery, with a mean age of 67 years, 34% of surgical specimens showed TTR‐positive amyloid deposition in synovial tissue.16 Lumbar spinal stenosis, the most common indication for back surgery in older adults, may represent yet another potential manifestation of systemic amyloid deposition.
