Bhangu et al. (2018) conducted a retrospective analysis of blood assays performed on samples collected before and after each cycle of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in 34 patients with liver metastases. Four methylation markers (BOLL, SEPT9, DCC, and SFRP2) were selected from a panel of 48 CRC-associated genes. Patients were categorized as responders or non-responders to therapy, as well as those with progressive disease. SEPT9 and DCC appeared to be the best predictors when assessed before and after each cycle of treatment, correlating with the histologic response. The gene discussed is SEPTIN9; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
