MiR-184, miR-30a, miR-381, and miR-495 are aberrantly up-regulated in MeCP2 knockout mice. These miRNAs are known for repressing the expression of important modulators of neuronal development, such as Bdnf and Numbl. BDNF is known to be aberrantly diminished in RTT individuals, it can be speculated that the lncRNA BDNF-AS might be an important therapeutic target for treating RTT. The gene discussed is NUMBL; the disease is Rett syndrome.
