In a model of advanced atherosclerosis with features of instability obtained by inducing a shear stress modifier around the carotid in high fat diet fed ApoE−/− mice, the number of neutrophils was inversely correlated to the number of VSMCs and positively correlated with necrotic core area lesion size and plaque instability (Silvestre-Roig et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and atherosclerosis.
