HDACs inhibition has been shown to activate protein tyrosine phosphatase SHP‐1, leading to STAT3 dephosphorylation in breast cancer cells.13 It is likely that lovastatin activates a protein tyrosine phosphatase such as SHP‐1 to dephosphorylate STAT3 and thereby cause survivin reduction in breast cancer cells. This evidence concerns the gene BIRC5 and breast cancer.
