ACHE and schistosomiasis: Numerous plant species in the Solanaceae used for their nutritional value (potatoes, for example) and others employed in traditional medicine for their anthelmintic properties contain naturally-occurring AChE-inhibitory compounds [60, 61], and so it may be that the evolution of this dietary behavior in schistosomiasis endemic populations has resulted in selective pressure on the parasite to produce these particular ChE molecules.
