INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Impaired insulin sensitivity and suboptimal beta-cell function have been well documented as central pathophysiological disorders underlying type 2 diabetes (T2D).1 Although less extensively studied, insulin clearance (IC) is another important regulator of circulating plasma insulin concentrations, and previous studies have documented that reductions in IC are associated with the incidence of T2D and related to a number of its underlying abnormalities.2–4
