Colorectal cancer is one of the four most common causes of cancer deaths,37 and in 90% of instances mortality is ascribed to metastasis, for which there are currently no effective treatments.38,39 Ouabain has been reported to inhibit cancer cell migration40–43 and to possess antimetastatic activity through its inhibition of Na+/K+ ATPase.43 On the basis of the mechanistic discoveries above we investigated the effects of Δ-[Fe2L3a3]Cl4 on important steps in the process of metastasis44–46 in the colon cancer cell line HCT116 p53+/+. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and colonic neoplasm.
