A recent study revealed that low molecular weight fucoidan derived from Laminaria japonica upregulates the activity of SOD and CAT by activating the SIRT1/AMPK/PGC1α signaling pathway, inhibiting the superoxide production and the lipid peroxidation, reducing TNF-α and transcription factor NF-κB, and then inhibiting oxidative stress in the liver and ultimately relieves NAFLD in diabetic mice (Figure 3) [78]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
