Many of the molecular alterations are linked to the inflammatory process involved in CRC carcinogenesis; these alterations involve cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) genes, which are related to the regulation of the expression of various cytokines and oxidative stress that contribute to neoplastic transformation [4,5]. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
