Our data showed that sepsis patients, when compared to healthy control subjects, had significantly increased blood levels of IL-6 (Fig. 1a and Additional file 1: Table S1, 184.2 ± 25.8 vs. 6.2 ± 3.4 ng/mL, p < 0.001), a data that supports ongoing inflammation in the sepsis patients.
