CDH2 and cancer: As a consequence of the “EMT master regulators” activity, cancer cells undergo drastic phenotypic changes in cell morphology: from polygonal to elongated, expression of cell adhesion proteins: downregulation of E-Cadherin and upregulation of N-Cadherin and integrins, expression of structural proteins: upregulation of Vimentin, among others that lead to the formation of mesenchymal cancer cells with migratory/invasive capacities (5).
