Compared to findings from a study by Zein and colleagues, low serum albumin levels in our study had similar sensitivity (52.3%; (95%CI: 41.3–63.0) vs. 52%) and a slightly lower specificity, (49.8%; (95%CI: 40.9–58.3) vs.69%) in predicting esophageal varices [12].
