These findings suggest that if 5‐HT accumulates in the interstitial space more than the capacity level of SERT due to the ischemia, reuptake of 5‐HT via SERT slows down, and instead, 5‐HT transport via PMAT becomes predominant in the clearance of 5‐HT.
