Since p53 modulates the expression of several coding and non-coding genes, Barsotti et al. analyzed a potential relationship between p53 and PVT1. Experimental evidence demonstrated that PVT1 contains several p53-binding elements and that certain stress-inducing agents such as DNA-damaging drugs, induced p53-dependent expression of PVT1. The authors went further and found mature levels of miR-1204 to be raised after p53 activation and that it was one of the mediators of the tumor-suppressive functions of p53 in colon cancer cell lines (46). This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and neoplasm.
