MMP2 and cancer: The flavonolignan silibinin (C25H22O10, Figure 1), an active compound of Silybum marianum (L.)Gaertn, decreases the expression of MMP-2, MMP-3 and MMP-9 and increases the expression of TIMP-2 in prostate tumor tissue in transgenic adenocarcinoma of the mouse prostate (TRAMP) model mice and in vitro in various cancer cells (26, 104, 105).
