The upregulation of antiapoptotic proteins of the BCL-2 family following LKB1 loss suggests that LKB1-defective cancers could be sensitive to BH3 mimetics, particularly to MCL1 inhibitors, some of which—such as AZD5991—are currently in clinical trials for the treatment of hematological malignancies. The gene discussed is STK11; the disease is hematologic disorder.
