On comparing inflammatory markers among the PCOS subgroups pursuing different dietary patterns, vegetarian women had higher levels of serum pro-inflammatory (TNF-α, IL-6, hs-CRP, resistin and IL-1β) and lower levels of anti-inflammatory markers (serum IL-10 and adiponectin) reaching statistical significance in case of serum hs-CRP, resistin and adiponectin. The gene discussed is RETN; the disease is polycystic ovary syndrome.
