As regards the pathophysiology of osteoporosis, extensive research has been documented for the catabolic activity of numerous inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β (interleukin 1 beta), TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor α), IL-6 (interleukin 6), IL-12 (interleukin 12), and IL-17 (interleukin 17), on bone mineral density (BMD) [5].
