Microglia and astrocyte activation, pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (Il)-1β, Il-6, and tumor necrosis factor (Tnf), chemokines such as Ccl5, or other neuroinflammatory markers, as well as reactive oxygen species, are elevated in animal models of neuroinflammation [6–8] and in human subjects with neurological disorders [9–11].
