A few years ago, vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism was considered to be an important factor in regulating bone metabolism, which attracted wide attention as a risk factor for osteoporosis (Eckstein et al., 2002; Kung, Yeung, & Lau, 1998; Tantawy, Amer, Raafat, & Hamdy, 2016; Tokita et al., 1996). This evidence concerns the gene VDR and osteoporosis.
