S. suis Strains 483, 484, and T17 were further analyzed during this study and compared to a S. suis (Strain 10) meningitis isolate from a pig, which has been well characterized (serotype 2, ST1, mrp+, sly+, epf+) and frequently used in infection and mutagenesis studies [28,32,37,38,48,49].
