This is in contrast to the APPROACH trial, a trial of triglyceride-lowering therapy in patients with familial chylomicronemia, in which thrombocytopenia led to excess early terminations among patients with familial chylomicronemia32 but in line with (1) 2 other trials of APOC3 inhibitors33,34 and (2) with the fluctuations in platelet counts (both thrombocytopenia and thrombocytosis) noted in an observational study of 86 patients with familial chylomicronemia.35 Further investigation is needed to confirm the unexpected genetic association of triglycerides with venous thromboembolism. Here, APOC3 is linked to Thrombocytopenia.
