This contrasts to other cancer types, such as gliomas that show strong association between astrocytic and oligodendroglial subtypes and telomere biology, which is driven mainly by mutations of the ATRX and TERT genes, respectively (100), as well as aggressive metastatic melanomas (101) and other cancers [see (102) and references cited therein] showing a high percentage of TERT mutations. This evidence concerns the gene TERT and central nervous system cancer.
