Children with Hb SS phenotype were at 5 times increase odds of developing CKD [aOR = 5.04, 95% CI (2.47–10.3); p<0.0001] while Hb SC children were at 3 times increased odds of developing CKD [aOR = 3.14 95% CI (1.39–7.01); p = 0.0174] after adjusting for age, BMI and gender [Table 3]. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and chronic kidney disease.
