HIV-1-Nef is a myristoylated protein (206 amino acids; 27–35 kDa) that is expressed in the early phase of HIV-1 infection (Guy et al., 1987; Foster et al., 2011), being highly conserved among primate lentiviruses HIV-1, HIV-2, and SIV (Stevenson, 1996; Renkema and Saksela, 2000). Here, S100B is linked to HIV-1 infection.
