Multivariate analysis of patients and controls adjusted for age, sex, and smoking status (pack-years) revealed that AMD was an independent factor associated with lower levels of angiogenin (β = −0.29, p < 0.001), endostatin (β = −0.18, p < 0.001), FGF-basic (β = −0.18, p < 0.001), and PlGF (β = −0.24, p < 0.001) and with higher concentration of FGF-acidic (β = 0.11, p = 0.03). This evidence concerns the gene PGF and age-related macular degeneration.
