Since T-1095, which inhibits renal reabsorption of glucose, was developed to treat hyperglycemia in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats, more selective sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, which inhibit the reabsorption of glucose at the S1 segment of renal proximal tubules [8], have been developed and are currently used to treat type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients.
