Whole-genome sequencing analysis of the widely-studied human cervical cancer cell line HeLa uncovered an active genomic fragment from Human Papilloma Virus type 18 (HPV-18) insertion into an originally silent constituent of a MYC super-enhancer, and thereafter drove upregulation of the proto-oncogene MYC promoting oncogenesis (103). The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is cervical cancer.
