We sorted a broad range of CD4+ T cell subsets from the anatomic sites using their specific cellular markers in 26 participants after they had been on effective ART for 3.0 to 17.8 years: 12 who initiated therapy during acute/early HIV-1 infection (≤6 months of infection before initiation of therapy) (AHI group) and 14 who initiated therapy during chronic HIV-1 infection (≥1 year of infection before initiation of therapy) (CHI group) (Tables 1,  to , 3 and Fig. 1,  to , 3). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is HIV-1 infection.
