In recent years, human myxovirus resistance 2 (MX2; also called MXB) has been identified as a potent, IFN-induced inhibitor of HIV-1 infection (Goujon et al., 2013, Kane et al., 2013, Liu et al., 2013, Bulli et al., 2016, Dicks et al., 2018) and herpesvirus infection, including herpes simplex viruses 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2) (Crameri et al., 2018, Schilling et al., 2018, Staeheli and Haller, 2018). The gene discussed is MX2; the disease is Herpesviridae infectious disease.
