TLR4 and melanoma: The mechanism of action underlying the observed melanoma-growth inhibition involves the activation of TLR-4 on APCs (peritoneal macrophages herein) by proTα and proTα(100–109), their subsequent maturation, uptake and presentation of melanoma antigens (AWE) to T cells, a process accompanied by the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines.
