This is two-fold more active than nitroxoline against Balamuthia and 13-fold more effective than miltefosine against Naegleria. Inhibitors of the mTOR pathway have been shown to be active against Plasmodium falciparum, Trypanosoma brucei, T. cruzi, Leishmania major, and L. donovani, highlighting this class of compounds as possible candidates for the treatment of parasitic infections (Diaz-Gonzalez et al., 2011; Khadir et al., 2018; Mott et al., 2015).
