The 2019 American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the 2019 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) guidelines recommend additional low-density lipoprotein-lowering therapy, such as ezetimibe or a proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor, for patients who have diabetes and ASCVD if low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goals are not met on the maximally tolerated statin dose [5, 6]. This evidence concerns the gene PCSK9 and diabetes mellitus.
