VEGFA and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: The injection of human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (hUCB-MCs) modified with an adenovirus encoding vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF2) linked through P2A peptide sequence into an ALS mouse model led to the secretion of both growth factors in the spinal cord, as well as the absence of immune response to 2A antigen after 28–52 days.
