To assess ischemia‐induced changes in the distribution and morphology in neurons and myeloid cells, the total number of neurons (NeuN+ cells), microglia/macrophages (Iba1+ cells), and NeuN/Iba1 double‐labeled cells were counted in the infarct core (a), inner peri‐infarct area (b), proximal area (c), and distal area (d) (Figure 4B, C) 3‐7 days after dMCAO and in the nonischemic contralateral hemisphere as control. The gene discussed is AIF1; the disease is ischemia.
