The dependence of IL-6 trans-signaling via the generation of IL-6 and sIL-6R by the EGF-R on macrophages demonstrates the existence of a possible novel therapeutic window for the treatment of colon cancer and lung cancer, which might be important in view of the fact that EGF-R antibodies including cetuximab or pantuximab are only useful in patients in whom there are no activating KRAS mutations [161,162]. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and lung carcinoma.
