Among the 12 stably enriched DEmiRs, upregulation of miR-196b-5p has been reported to maintain tumor stem cell activity and promote colorectal cancer cell resistance by activating the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT3) signaling pathway; and to regulate the migration and metastasis of colorectal cancer cells through Homeobox protein Hox-B7 (HOXB7) and polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 5 (GALNT5) interaction [18].
