To confirm whether the suppression of liver fibrosis by AGA is regulated at the gene level, we evaluated the expression of collagen type 1 alpha (Col1a1) and collagen type 3 alpha 1 (Col3a1), as markers of fibrosis transforming growth factor-beta (Tgfb) which are known as upstream regulators of Col1a1 and Col3a1. Expression analysis revealed that these genes were upregulated in the HC group and associated with the onset of NASH. This evidence concerns the gene COL1A1 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
