IL22 and systemic sclerosis: Local skin production of Th1- and Th17-related cytokines has been found by Brembilla et al. [18], who also showed an increase of Th-22 cells in peripheral blood of patients affected by SSc, together with an increase of IL-22 mRNA in skin biopsies, suggesting a potential role of Th-17 and Th-22 in the pathogenesis of tissue fibrosis [18–20].
