SIRT1 and cancer: Some of them deal with DNA methylation pattern, epigenetic reprogramming, and aberrant microRNA (miRNA) levels and/or investigate the role of intermediates of the Krebs cycle on “nonmetabolic” signaling which alters the immune system, the role of DJ-1 (Parkinsonism-associated deglycase) as a modulator of mitochondrial metabolic efficiency and a switch between glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation, and the role of bouchardatine in suppressing cancer by disrupting its metabolic pathways via activating the SIRT1-PGC-1α-UCP2 axis.
