HMOX1 and Parkinson disease: Regarding the role of naringenin in PD, Lou and colleagues showed that administration of naringenin (70 mg/kg bwt, p.o.)in mice protected them against 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurodegeneration and oxidative damage through activation of the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2/antioxidant response element (Nrf2/ARE) and its downstream target genes including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and glutathione cysteine ligase regulatory subunit.
