Betaine as continuous variable was inversely associated with incident T2DM in men (HR: 0.44, 95% CI: 0.24–0.80, p = 0.007), but not in women (HR: 0.97, 95% CI: 0.55–1.71, p = 0.93), after adjustment for age, eGFR, BMI, smoking status, ethnicity, FPG, total cholesterol, HDL-C, TG, CRP, and use of lipid-lowering drugs (Table 5). Here, CRP is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
