TAFs have recently emerged as potential therapeutic targets in leukemia; based on a CRISPR/Cas9 screen24, TAF1 appears to be essential for MV4-11 AML cells (that express MLL-AF4), but dispensable for the growth of the MOLM-13, HL-60, OCI-AML3 AML cell lines and two different solid tumor cell lines24. The gene discussed is KMT2A; the disease is leukemia.
