Paired comparisons of tetramer‐specific and polyclonal CD8+ T cells revealed that in subjects with type 1 diabetes, the PPI5–12‐specific CD8+ T cell population was comprised of significantly fewer naive cells and significantly more stem‐cell‐like memory cells, central memory cells and transitional memory cells compared to the polyclonal CD8+ T cell population (Fig. 1f). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
