Out of several neuropeptides that have gained interest for their potential anti-epilepsy properties,19 neuropeptide Y (NPY) is one of the strongest candidates.20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Apart from animal studies, NPY has been shown to decrease glutamate release from principle neurons, thereby decreasing excitatory synaptic transmission27 as well as counteracting seizure activity in human pharmacoresistant epileptic tissue resected from drug refractory patients (unpublished data). Here, NPY is linked to epilepsy.
