The subgroup of older patients (≥ 75 years) showed greater risk reduction than younger patients (< 75 years) for stroke/systemic embolic events with Factor Xa inhibitors compared to VKA [35] (OR 0.76, 95% CI 0.66, 0.88 and OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.84, 1.09 for older and younger patients, respectively) with subgroup interaction effects (Chi2 = 5.07, p = 0.02), and high heterogeneity (I2 = 80%).
